This piece emerged from a week spent on the coast of Maine, watching the fog wrap itself around the waves. Each crest would rise, blur, and vanish—leaving not emptiness, but the profound, quiet weight of the sea behind.
I had been collecting old nautical charts, their edges frayed, ink softened into a deep oceanic blue. They were not mere maps—they were fragments of stories: voyages taken, storms weathered, moments pressed into paper and memory.
In this painting, I layered acrylic and torn textiles to echo the texture of those weathered charts. The deep indigo blue holds the weight of quiet moments; the cream and oatmeal tones breathe between them. These irregular fragments are not just shapes—they are echoes of the sea I carried home: the hush of fog, the memory of a wave, the way stillness can feel both vast and intimate.

"Fragments of the Quiet Sea" belongs to my ongoing exploration of material memory and quietude. Through a blend of hand-painting and collage, I seek to capture not just what is seen, but what is felt in the spaces between—the weight of silence, the texture of time, and the poetry of fragments.
